June 18 until June 26 2025
In the midst of global tensions, increasing polarization, and mounting social insecurity, questions about taking responsibility, taking a stand, and taking an artistic position have now come to the fore. resonanzräume | מרחבי תהודה emerges against the backdrop of the disturbing rise in antisemitism since October 7, 2023—both in Germany and internationally—and understands art as a vital site of resonance: as a place for listening, reverberation, and contradiction. Together with artists from Israel, the Diaspora, and the local art scene, the power of resonance emerges, not only as an echo, but also as confrontation, amplification, and friction—a lively dialogue across borders, experiences, and identities.
With a diverse program of contemporary dance, performances, workshops, music, literature, and film for young and old, the festival invites you to explore the artistic links. It provides a platform for dialogue that examines history and current events, and also looks ahead to future opportunities and challenges. It addresses unifying themes as well as questions of identity, homeland, humanity, and the conceptions and limits of social coexistence—resonanzräume | מרחבי תהודה as a space that can withstand friction, that accepts contradictions, and that understands solidarity not as an attitude but as a practice.

TransMission
Club Night
10:00 pm
For decades, the city of Frankfurt has been a melting pot of club culture, innovation, and a wide variety of cultural influences—locally rooted and internationally networked. The TransMission club night will kick off the resonanzräume festival and set the tone: as an open format, electronic music blurs boundaries and creates new spaces for people to meet, to move, and to share moments. One floor, one night, many sounds: the line-up will bring together different perspectives from house to techno. What connects them is movement through sound, body, and space. We invite everyone who doesn't just want to listen, but wants to dive in. Who take music seriously without taking themselves too seriously. Who see the dancefloor as a place where communication can happen—non-verbal, direct and in constant motion.

Fragments Reconnected Followed by a film discussion
Short film evening
5:30 pm | 8:00 pm
An evening of films that explore the fragile yet transformative nature of human reconnection—in which people are torn from their everyday lives and forced to confront their pasts, their feelings, and the relationships that shape them. At the heart of each film are protagonists who do not see themselves as heroes. Their strengths are revealed not only through the drama that unfolds, but also through the unique cinematic language of each film.
Ming is drawn to the memories of his homeland, while Nikolay, struggling with personal and national challenges, finds solace in a street dog. Billie, a worried mother, meddles in her son's budding relationship, with unexpected consequences. And Henya's instinctive response to her disabled son triggers a quiet but profound moment of connection.
The films tell stories of souls caught between longing and belonging, in which a brief moment can forge a new path, reminding us that reconnecting often comes in the most surprising and tender ways.
Q&A after each screening between the directors Nikolay Kouleshov and Benny Shklovsky (5:30 pm screening) and Brachi Haisherik (8:00 pm screening) and film scholar and curator Nir Ferber.

Yuval Zorn
Masques Images Hommages Pre-launch
Concert
7:30 pm
Yuval Zorn's repertoire is extensive, and his sensitive touch, technical brilliance, and deep understanding of music make him an inspiring soloist and conductor.
He brings his special passion for opera, contemporary music, and the introduction of new works to the concert and opera stage to his current position as Artistic Director of the Israel Music Fest—one of the most important events in the Israeli music calendar. A former conductor at the Frankfurt Opera and a graduate of the Young Artists Program at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, he has worked with leading opera houses, orchestras, and ensembles, as well as major festivals in Israel, Europe, and America.
This evening is a pre-launch of his solo album Masques Images Hommages, which will be released at the end of June and was created during a time of intense turbulence. With works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Karol Szymanowski, and Claude Debussy, it brings together a series of theatrical and sometimes even ritualistic compositions. Together they act as a resonance chamber, creating reflections and images of decay and vitality, and embodying both a sense of decadence and a burgeoning vitality.
Yuval Zorn, born in Jerusalem in 1976, graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with a degree in piano and conducting, and is a graduate of the National Opera Studio in London. He has performed as a pianist and conductor on renowned stages around the world.

Friday Showing BAtanz
Dance
6:30 pm
Dance students from the HfMDK will participate in intensive workshops to learn about the artistic methods of the choreographers Hila Nachshonov and Rotem Viner Tchaikosvky, as part of the 1|2|3 Platform for Emerging Choreographers at the Suzanne Dellal Center. Together they will develop movement studies and deepen forms of dance expression.
As part of the Friday Showing BAtanz, the dancers will perform their own artistic creations and reflections on the workshops. In an open and experimental atmosphere, they will provide the audience with insights into their creative processes and share newly developed forms of expression.
At the heart of this format is collaborative artistic research and discovery through dance. Every movement, every gesture opens up spaces for artistic dialogue and understanding across cultural and linguistic boundaries, without any theatrical illusion or grand spectacle.

Yuval Zorn: The story of Babar, the little elephant
Family concert
11:00 am
Babar grows up with his mother in the forest until she is killed by a hunter. Babar flees to the city, where he is taken in by a wealthy woman who gives him clothes and teaches him to read and write. Despite these comforts, Babar misses the forest. Two years later, he meets his cousins, Arthur and Celeste. Babar is delighted and decides to return to the forest with them. But he discovers that the king of the elephants has died, and Babar is chosen to be the new king. The elephants have a plan to convince Babar to stay. But he has one condition…
In 1940, Francis Poulenc set Babar, the little Elephant to music as a gift for his five-year-old niece, who wanted to experience her favorite story through music. The work, originally written for piano and a narrator, brings the story to life by combining amusing melodies with a clear structure.

The Other
Film
12:00 pm
Filmed from 2017-2024, including post October 7th and during the subsequent war, The Other focuses on Israeli & Palestinian peace-builders, anti-occupation activists, artists, academics, ex-fighters, bereaved parents and many more living the reality on the ground. Whether in non-violent co-resistance, peace-building, or shared community, we witness those who have only known each other through hate, bloodshed, inequality, and war, transcend beyond narratives & belief systems. They teach us that unlearning deep-seated conditioning is possible and that we can liberate ourselves from generational trauma, hatred and fear—no matter how ingrained and legitimate those fears are.
Introduction: Prof. Dr. Doron Kiesel, Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland
Director: Joy Sela, USA 2024, Hebrew-Arabic-English original with English subtitles, 104 min.

Adi Keissar: Words on stage
Dramatic reading and discussion
7:30 pm
For the first time, the resonanzräume program will include a literary fellowship. The poet Adi Keissar has been invited to live and work in Frankfurt for one month and to take part in an exchange with the local literary and cultural scene. As a poet, journalist, and founder of the poetry project Ars Poetica, she is an Israeli of Yemeni origin. Her poetry focuses on identity and power structures and represents a counter-narrative to the dominant culture. Through lyrical writing, mostly focused on politics, Keissar succeeds in capturing the all-too-human and conveying a sense of shared experience with the reader.
Her poems appear in anthologies, magazines, and newspapers and have been translated into ten languages. Her first book, Shahor 'al Gabbei Shahor (Black on Black), was published in 2014, and has been followed by numerous other volumes and awards. The newspaper Haaretz has called her the "most influential and outstanding Israeli poet" of the present day.
Moderated by Irina Bondas, Adi Keissar will read from her work and discuss with actress Sharon Kotkovsky about the connection between literature and the performing arts, as well as the inclusions and exclusions that language can create or overcome. The three panelists will also discuss the necessity of diverse narratives, power politics, and the (in)translatability of their work.
- Guests: Adi Keissar, poet
- Sharon Kotkovsky, theatrical artist and performer
- Moderation: Irina Bondas, moderator
